Moving forward into great things

Red Run News -- October 19, 2008

Charles Harting shared a testimony of serving and trusting the God who paints the beautiful red, yellow, and orange on the trees at this time of year. In the Sunday School class, Bob Sauder challenged us to move forward into the great things God has for us to do. "Lord, are you bringing into my life this week some person with whom I can share Jesus?"

Bob Sauder led us in a time of singing. The hymn selections we gave reflect our hearts -- "Just As I Am," "Be Still and Know," "He's Got the Whole World," and "There Is a Redeemer." We prayed together for those in need.

Pastor Carl preached on faith, love, and hope from I Thessalonians 1:2, 3. Our faith is built upon God, our Creator and our Redeemer. We look for that blessed hope when God will set all things right. In the meantime, we live here and now -- extending to others that great love that God through Jesus Christ has offered to us.

Upcoming events:
October 29 and 30 (Wednesday and Thursday) -- Volunteers are needed between 9:00 a.m. and noon to clean the house where the Prysakar family will soon move.
November 2 -- A representative from Gideons International will speak during the combined Sunday School time
November 6 (Thursday) -- Ready Runners will meet at the church from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
November 23 -- Rudy Niessen, material resources warehouse coordinator, Mennonite Central Committee, will be our guest speaker.

And be sure that you have on your calendar the December 14, 7 p.m. Christmas program at Red Run.

Campers join in service

Red Run News -- October 12, 2008

The most observant among us have noticed the new shingles on the church roof.

On October 5, David Erb challenged our thinking in Sunday School with the story of Pentecost. We acknowledge the ongoing work of God in our lives as the Holy Spirit dwells within us. In the morning message, Kevin Weaver walked us through the Bible on the theme of Sabbath rest. In the New Testament, the Sabbath concept is fulfilled as we come to know Jesus and rest completely in him.

We celebrated the communion service today (October 12). Pastor Carl preached on the themes of thankfulness and unity as we join Christians around the world in thinking about what God has done for us in Christ. In Christ we receive forgiveness of sins and also the power to forgive others.

This is Columbus Day weekend, and a large contingent of campers joined our service this morning. One couple had traveled all the way from British Columbia.

Please remember that we are planning for a fellowhip meal after the church service next Sunday (October 19).

A card-making session led by Glenda Lafferty is scheduled for Saturday, October 25, at 9:30 a.m. at the church.

The Christmas program is scheduled for Sunday evening, December 14, at 7 p.m. at the church. If you want to help with the chimes choir, see Tisha Weaver.
